Mr Woof was at the Lost Dogs Home, after being picked up off the streets and not being claimed. When I first saw him he was bouncing up and down in his cage like he had an inbuilt pogo stick. He was very stressed as he had made good friends with another little white dog who had just gone off with a couple of strangers and was nowhere to be seen. I had my current dog with me for a greeting, but he was so focussed on trying to see his friend he pretty much just ignored her.

When we got to the waiting room his dog friend was there too and he was thrilled to be able to hang out again, then when he left with his new owners Mr Woof really started freaking out and howling in the waiting room. He took a while to settle in, the poor boy does not like change and becomes very attached to his pack.

Miss Meow was aquired through a small rescue via Facebook, and because it was Covid times we did the handover in the carpark of the vet’s office just after she’d been spayed. So she came into my life groggy from the drugs, and was also skinny with very patchy fur and was still on antibiotics to treat infections in her skin and mouth. She also had a booking to have some teeth removed too, which was the start of the infection that never quite cleared up and ended up with her having all her teeth removed and being diagnosed with FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).

I went to the dentist and this was the conversation

Dentist: Just a check up and clean today?

Me: Yeah and a little bit of laughing gas if you’ve got any spare.

Dentist: laughs You’re due for some x rays

Me: Not today but if you give me some laughing gas I’ll consider it.

Dentist: laughs Oh yes then we can all have a go laughs. Next we’ll do the x rays and if we need to do any work I’ll give you a needle.

    Me: And laughing gas?

Dentist: no laughing. Completely ignores me

I tried. Now I’m wondering if I’m on some sort of “list”.

So this is weird (although I’m sure there’s an easy reason). I only use FB here in Melbs to look for music events here in Melbs. I’ve never used it down the beach. When I’m down the beach I only use google to look at the local IGA for dins lol. All the suggested events on FB are now for the Bellarine (I’ve never gone to an event down there let alone searched for one). It used to be all DnB raves.

So I can only assume that googs is now selling location shit to FB. Don’t have FB on phone either.

    Weird.

It depends if facey has its location services turned on. If so, it’s pinging every now and again to know where you are.

Pretty sure you can turn it off.

      Toby!

      spoiler

I met Toby at an animal shelter in Bendigo while dropping off a donation one day. Decided to cheer myself up and pat some dogs while I was there. There was 2 rows of kennels and all of the dogs were barking as I walked through. About three quarters of the way down, there was a kennel with a little white dog that was just sitting on the ground, no barking, no jumping. I decided to say hello to him and when I went into his kennel and sat on the ground, he immediately got into my lap and tilted his head back to look at me and I just fell in love.

While I was sitting in there with him, the shelter photographer came by to take Toby’s promotional photos and I panicked and said not to because I was going to adopt him.

Honestly don’t even know how I passed the adoption process, but I came back a week later to pick up my little man who became the absolute love of my life.

      Alfie!

      spoiler

Alfie is Boyo’s cat. My best friend worked with a pet rescue and messaged him one day about 7 years ago and said “I’ve got a cat for you, his name is Alfie” and sent him a photo of a tiny little kitten. Boyo was unsure about the cat, unsure about to name, but met him and absolutely fell in love.

Pepper popped out from under a hire car at Melbourne Airport. She then ate a Turkey sandwich and a muffin and made her way home. Did all the due diligence because she had a collar on but given the location we’re pretty sure she was dumped. This is her in the truck on her way home.

Partner had never had a cat and was hesitant when I proposed the idea. He said yes after a few weeks of thinking, and I immediately jumped on petrescue to look 😂

I saw Mickey’s picture, he was 4 months, give or take a few weeks, and was (IS) gorgeous. I called the rescue group, had a little phone convo, and booked to come in to meet Mickey and see if he liked us.

As soon as the animal attendant opened his enclosure door, he trotter out up to me. Put his front paws on my thighs and mewled. I melted. I picked him up and he was instantly purring and dribbling, making biscuits. Partner held him and the same thing. So we took him home that day 😂

his advertisement on petrescue that I saw

I screenshot this after we adopted hi, so I’d always have it heh

a few photos from the first few weeks of being with us

Here’s my old kitty Sheba. Met her at a very nice (and proper) breeders place in geelong. Place was absolute chaos w/ all those cats (all abys). As soon as I walked in one jumped on me from the top of a door lol. Sheba though was just sitting there all quiet. Nicest cat I’ve ever had, but she was fearless. Used to jump off the second story for fun. She also didn’t like silverside and would only drink water on the bench out of one specific cup.

If i get another cat it’d be that breed.

I was pet sitting for a neighbour while he was in hospital, and helped care for them after he got out. Because he was terminal he began rehoming the pets to ensure they would be looked after when he went. I adopted the senior kitty - Melbcat.

I was shown her baby pics briefly in a photo album but unfortunately don’t have them. I’m not sure what happened to that

Misha showed up randomly in our back yard after the neighbors moved out, moved into our yard then promptly got railed on the hood of our ol’ datsun. Which is where Cerys and Punkin came from. And others.

So I got ALLL the baby pics.

TW: little bit of birth gore here.

Randomly my landlord rocked up one day and goes, do you want a cat? Daughters friends cat had kittens.

I thought about it for a couple of mins and was like, yeah sure why not.

Went to kmart, filled a trolley with cat stuff. Went over to meet em all and Gibson just kinda waddled over.

She fit in my hand pretty much but she was weaned, eating solid food and toilet trained.

And so began the adventure lol

Edit: oh and I thought she was a boy that’s why her name is Gibson. By the time I realised she’d already gotten used to it.

I have no baby picks of the current two as they were adopted mostly grown. WhiteBoy I got as a tiny one from Lost Dogs. We went in to get a friend for another cat who was rather brain broken after being locked in the neighbours basement for much of a week. a mostly white kitten

My kid wanted a dog. I tried to convince her that there were other pets out there like fish, stick insects and silkies but apparently you can’t cuddle them so they’re not worthy.

So the man and kid went to the RSPCA where little dog was located. The man thought “he looks more robust than the chihuahua that we had previously looked at. Atleast she won’t kill him on his first night home”.

He has not forgotten the “wheelie bin incident”.

My mum used to be one of those people who does not like novelty kitchen appliances, like those machines that are used to make one item. She drilled it into us things like airfryers are a waste of space.

We now have a popcorn maker, after I burnt a saucepan. And today, a slushie maker. At least it also makes frappes and is good for Xmas entertaining.

We actually got rid of the toaster and got a convection oven instead. It’s handy for baking small things but takes around seven minutes to toast bread well. My dad will frequently just use the sandwich press if he wants multiple pieces of toast.

Yeah. my friends oven broke so she bought a fancy airfryer thing with all the options, it’ll do six pierces of toast but I can’t help but feel it’s a bit slow, it’s slower than my toaster oven.

Air fryer, pressure cooker and slow cooker are used regularly at home.

Yes they take up some space, but worth the minor loss of bench space.

I kept the slow cooker only because the Instapot ‘slow cook’ function isn’t great and some recipes I make really need the slow cooker.

It stays out of sight and only comes out on special occasions :)

yeah instapots I’ve read are a bit dodge But the foodi we got is a full bore system that actually did better than our old slow cooker. The only bugbear we had was having to relearn the cooking times as it’s a smidge off the air fryer performance of our Phillips. Not hugely, just enough to be annoying lol.

Does make it better at cupcakes though, I’ve found.

Thank you for the pet photos everyone! And the stories! I think I’ve been convinced to get a cat at some stage in my life, even though I’ve always been a dog person. I love how my dog gives me a bit of a boost when running, but I reckon one day, a cat will be on the table.

They’re both good pets but have very different requirements. My dog feels like way more work than my friends cats - mostly the twice day walking, but I don’t really have a litterbox (I pick it up), nor does he try and take a dominant position in the relationship.
