Yeah I’m moving this meat to the freezer as I won’t be able to cook it today. Right now the focus is getting things back up off the floor and doing laundry including the clothes that fell in case of any flea eggs.

My BigDubya stick vac works impressively for the size and quality but it’s too late to use it right now. I wish it was quieter. It’s such a hassle to vacuum with a thing that screams but the quieter stick vacs in my budget don’t pick up a thing.

I wish my sleep schedule would correct 🫩

I’m also late with meds because cat won’t come out of the hidey hole. I just had to reach in at a contorted angle to give an oral syringe one handed and by feel.

I had a fairly productive day today. A couple of loads of washing done. Yoghurt made. Some cloth hemmed and shaped for the straining of yoghurt tomorrow. Lawn mown.

Melbcat looked so rough this morning even after meds… but I managed to give her sub q fluids while she was lying in bed with me and we both rested while her tank filled. The Dine melting soups got her to eat a little bit. She’s somewhat perked up again.

    spoiler

Then I woke up and she’d eaten the homemade broth from last night that I forgot to take away 🤢 She’s just had another half pouch of cat soup and has now gone into her hidey hole. I’ve refilled the bowl with the rest and put it nearby in the hope she keeps on eating.

She partly tipped the litter box trying to get in so I think it’s time I try to saw down the sides of larger containers to make wide shallow boxes. I have a mini hacksaw but will see if I have the energy.

Haven’t seen the black cat much. I’ve been busy and saw him lounging in the common area maybe last week but he didn’t run over for pats. Ever since I started feeding him and gave him a parasite treatment I’ve seen a lot less of him. I can only hope that means others may be helping and he’s okay.

    spoiler

Speaking of which… there’s a round red flaking lesion on my knee 🤨 It shouldn’t be what I think it is as I usually wore long pants and often showered after patting him but… I’ve washed it with sulfur soap, applied anti fungal cream and covered it with bandaids.

Please do not let me have to deal with decontaminating my house of ringworm on top of everything else. I have a small bottle of F10 disinfectant but I have zero energy to spare and half the place is carpet.

My house has slid back into kaos 🫩

It’s a good sign that she is eating. The Laos can wait (but oh I understand the frustration. I am trying to do one little unKAOS thing every day for ‘lent’ and I am struggling).

Yeah that’s the most important thing. The cat soup pouches are expensive and not nutritious but it’s so good that she’s eating. And they’re liquidy. I bought a bunch of them.

I had it fairly under control and then this week hit… Between a mess of pill containers and medical supplies, clothing that fell onto the floor when I grabbed something to head out, cat bowls, and the groceries just brought in… the place looks like it’s been hit by a bomb

melbs, you are amazing the way you are looking after mcat, she sounds like she is recovering well under your expert and loving care 🥹 I was so worried for you both.

beach done, I walked all the way to the big mangroves, it was a little iffy, the sand is unstable because of the underlying silt , it was so quiet tho, I could hear nothing but birds and water and just smelt nature . Five hundred metres closer to Point Little I could smell civilisation again, a bit of smoke, dust, sunscreen. Found a cool big cork from a fishing net and some nice shells.

Went for a boogie last night, ended up walking home (only 4km) at 5am like the good ol’ days.

It’s a very calm walk that takes you over the johnson st. bridge which I’d say has one of the better views of the city. Didn’t see a soul on that walk. Just you, the footpath and the mission.

    I have marketed

    The spoils

    • Peri peri (peri?) marinated chicken
    • A bit of venison from the fancy game shop in the deli-hall. It was a good price, I quite like venison and I rarely have it. @TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone , since I saw you mentioning you were fond of rabbit, I also saw whole rabbits for $25 and they were willing to joint them for you

    • Eggplant
    • Zucchini

Nashi pears are my beloved too! Such an underrated fruit, so crunchy and refreshing when they are fresh. I want more people to eat them so that supply goes up.

Whole rabbits for $25? Scandalous. I think I’ll borrow one of the neighbourhood greyhounds and take a walk down Merri Creek. Still, it’s nice to know that one can still buy bunnymeat. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me!

I remember being able to get whole rabbits for a couple of dollars, much cheaper than you could buy a chicken for. Or it was something you’d be given free from someone who had been hunting. I used to get them when I was a student and had limited money.

Yes. Rabbit meat (wild) should be cheap as chips and a possible solution to a serious pest problem. I understand farmed rabbit has a cost, but wild is perfect low income protein.

When I was a kid a family member would go pest control shooting and bring them home for free.

I don’t know if I could bear to kill them myself though (I couldn’t)

Edit: is myxo still a danger?

I think they moved more to Calici virus, but they are constantly having to change what they are using as the rabbits become immune. I just saw today that they are starting a poisoning program around Ballarat because the rabbit numbers are up. I haven’t seen any around where I am but there are definitely lots around work.

Squillions on Merri Creek. You do still have to vaccinate pet bunnies though for myxo & calicivirus. The viruses are destroyed by cooking. As are liver flukes, tapeworm and other parasites etc. that infest wild rabbit populations. Just don’t eat rabbit tartare. And wash hands & tools THOROUGHLY after preparing raw wild bunny. Just a rinse won’t do.

Oh that sucks that they’re poisoning them now. And that makes it less safe to eat them.

It sounds a bit heartless but with cost of living being what it is, it might be useful (and more effective not to mention humane) for more people to hunt them for food

Given the large number of rescued/ex-racer greyhounds around, hunting rabbits does actually make sense as a post-racing career for them. Shooting & snaring is not really an option for urban rabbit populations.

Does anyone know what analogue cream is? Does it have a smoother and warmer profile than digital cream?

I shall add this to the list of proper tributes to the new goddess Aspartame. That is, Aphrodite’s whiny younger sister. So far her tributes are : sugar substitutes, “diet” soft drink, vegan bacon, analogue cream, carob ‘chocolate’, anything marketed as a vegan “burger” or “sausage”, and plant mylks of any kind. The goddess of fake food.

For crying out loud, please, if you are going to go vego (and why not) then embrace it! Enjoy all the wonderful vegetarian & vegan food available. Don’t do fake shit that only looks like the real thing and is full of salt & fillers and ‘modifiers’ etc. That stuff just can’t be good for you.

It’s an analogue of cream. Like can’t believe it’s not butter. Usually just veggie fats and shizz. Can be wonderfully shelf stable if done right
