I’m at the vet with Miss Meow as she has been vomiting. We got to start with a fun game of hide and seek in the garden. Fortunately I managed to avoid claw marks. She is not impressed with the whole process.

Edit: There was a goat in the waiting room!

Miss Meow has had a blood test done and been prescribed some anti-allergenic food. Now I just need to wait and see for a bit more. Hopefully we get this sorted sooner rather than later - she seems quite fine other than the vomiting, but I’m a bit over getting out of bed and stepping in a pike of cat puke.

Fingers crossed for Miss Meow. 🤞

Melbcat had the same thing and still had issues on prescription food so if Miss Meow doesn’t settle or like it don’t be afraid to go onto the single protein grain free stuff.

      If you wanted recs

For dry food, Meals For Meows had a recall but their Mackerel and Salmon was the go to. I went to Taste Of The Wild in Canyon River/trout and smoked salmon but if you can’t get it MfM is probably ok now. These ones are around the bottom of that category’s price bracket. Pricey but still probably cheaper than prescription and better quality.

Wet food was homebrand Colesworth in tuna mince, then Weruva in Steak Frites or Lamburgini. The fish flavours of Dine Desire or Fancy Feast Royale are not nutritionally complete but were tolerated as well.

I use BioBlitz to clean anything biological and a cheap black light torch helps find sneaky pukes.

Another presso for maketing today, 4th time delivering the same content. You’d think I’d be less nervous by now. Reminding myself I know more about the presso topic than anyone in the room so it doesn’t need to be perfect. And breathe.

Edit - it went well! Less people than RSVP’ed but all very engaged and asking questions which means more than people who just show up and listen silently. I have A LOT of leftover sushi catering though, gonna be eating sushi for a few days.

Coles needs to calm tf down with the scan toilet paper first policy. The attendant at self checkouts today was so aggressive, patrolling the queue like she was searching for contraband and getting up close pointing at peoples trolleys and literary intervening at the checkouts, stopping them mid scan and making them put down whatever was in their hand loudly telling them to scan TP or soft drink slab etc first. It’s offensive.

I got watched today because I had a lot of luxury goodies like smoked salmon, caviar and cheeses. She walked away when I only bread rolls left to scan. Yet some poor old bastard was waiting to be let out of his corral. I told him to whack it with his walking stick.

It’s not a quantity issue, they have a policy where they insist people scan big items first. I can’t understand it, I’m guessing they think you will steal it? Look I may have gone up a size in recent times, but no way is a 24 pack of TP fitting in my pocket.

    Cleaning, cat TMI

While it was still dark overnight I went into the back room to try and find a suspected pee spot with the UV torch. No dice. How does a black light not find pee?

But it turns out vomit does fluoresce. Normally I cleaned that on the spot but there had been some sneaky (clear) ones I didn’t know about and couldn’t see without the light. So I got in there with a bottle of biological cleaner and a microfibre mitt. Once I’ve found any stray whiskers to save in the front room (I vacuumed the back before she died) I’ll vacuum and repeat the process there.

My poor little girl. I’ve wrapped her urn in the first blanket I ever bought her plus her fanciest one and put her in her favourite bed.

I’m feeling terrible. Massive headache, cramps, miserable inside. I haven’t been out to look for, feed, or pat the black cat since the paper collar attempt because I just haven’t felt up to it.

I figure you’re probably not a “huggy” kind of person (I’m not either) but I would totally give you one of my physically awkward A-frame shouldery hugs right now.

He’s always got water, I went out for bins and made sure the gravity dispenser was refilled. And unfortunately I think he’s a good hunter :(

I’m just trying not to get too attached to him because my goal would have to be making him an inside cat, and even if I could handle the extended strain of quarantine ringworm treatment… He showed me he would not accept that life.

Taking care of him ‘casually’ as an outside cat is quite challenging as well.

            spoiler

Even just feeding him means him coming and rubbing up on you with the ringworm, which requires a makeshift gown up before and full body antifungal scrub after. And you have to meet him directly with the food whenever he randomly shows up, which could be suddenly any time, because if food is left out other animals get it within a minute. Not kidding. The birds pick it clean in the day and a fox eats it at night.

Dropping the food and going back inside wouldn’t work as he seems more interested in affection and will eagerly run up on you.

Maybe at some point I might be more able to engage but right now I’ve kind of shrunk in on myself and am not really functioning. It also feels like a betrayal of Melbcat. I’m feeling terrible like I’ve dumped him but trying to just give myself a break during this time.

I don’t want to go through all this shit. Technically I have or am capable of learning basic prepping skills if it comes to it but realistically I’m not physically resilient and wouldn’t survive harsh times.

I’m very tired and if things go sideways I’m kind of hoping something just kills me.

Still the repercussions will affect Australia.

I’m not able to be flexible around food and fluids at all and can’t regulate my own body temperature well. And my immune system sucks.

So if priced out or cut off from energy for heating or cooling, all the soap got bought up like in covid, can’t get the few things I can eat, shortage of antibiotics or iv fluids… I’m gonna have a bad time.

I know his handlers will just fill the eventual vacuum but I hope the orange one’s wipeout is legendary.

I think we are ok here. The current petrol price hike might be painful for some people, but big picture is that it’s tolerable in our economy. We are lucky to be one of the richest countries in the world and self sufficient in food supply. Also we can afford higher prices for essential imports compared to the rest of the world. No one is turning the lights out. Most of the current petrol shortages are in smaller towns where people panic bought by filling up jerry cans and farm bulk containers, thereby stripping the servo tanks unexpectedly. The next truck is still coming on schedule.

For peace of mind, this website shows the breakdown of energy generation. Currently Vic is running at 56% coal and the remainder renewables, so no reliance on imports. Aemo

The new cutlery has arrived. It is impressively shiny, but extracting the ‘display’ set from the front of the box was quite a challenge, I had to use pliers to untwist the wires. Every single piece was also in an individual plastic bag which was a bit of a nuisance.

The old cutlery is in a bag ready to go to work, we are always short on cutlery there.
