So I just turned 18. I already got drunk in my life after I threw a party while my parents were gone, I wanna try drugs too. Is it worth it?

No rush, wait a few years. Enjoy the amazing body you have right now. You don’t realize it but you are so fast and can climb so well at your age. Join a capture the flag league. I’d trade a weed trip for 1 afternoon with a teenage body any day! Jump off a cliff into a swimming hole. Backpack across a continent. Skateboard until you fuck up your knees.

If you do seriously only do like 5 MG’s to start.

    For real dude.

I eat 100mgs at a time and you’ll see a lot of other people tell you if you aren’t going hard in the mother fucking paint its not worth it but that is a lie

Just eat 5 mgs and if that doesn’t hit in a day or two do 10mg and work your way up to it.

If you eat too much at a time before your tolerence builds you will likely throw up and get the spins and have an awful, awful time. Start slow and it will be fun.

Other person was right though, lose the pedestal.

Weed can completely and irreversibly damage a developing brain. Wait until you’re at least 26 before you fuck with THC.

Don’t rush into it also don’t put booze on a pedestal. Don’t put anything on a pedestal. Get rid of the pedestal.

Edibles have come a long way and some taste really really good but catching a buzz off of them is hit or miss. It’s a crapshoot. Sometimes they sneak up on you sometimes they never show up. Never do they show up on time. A bar near me has THC drinks which are a tasty alternative to alcohol but being of the delta variety they’re more for flavor and having something non-alcoholic to drink at a bar than they are for getting stoned to the bone. It’s a 21+ beverage so, again, don’t rush into it you’re not missing out on much.

I didn’t have any alcohol(save for a glass of champagne at home with my parents on Y2K but come on, it was the turn of the century it would have been wrong not to) until I turned 21 and it never sank it’s claws in. I’ve lived long enough now to see what alcohol does to people as the years of drinking add up. My SO’s brother has shaky hands in the morning until he gets a few beers in him. My SO collapsed in the kitchen last week. They blame it on the gummy we both ate equal parts of. It didn’t do shit for me and I suspect it was the drinking that led to fainting. That’s a whole different story about the dangers of drinking too much too often.

tl;dr wait until you’re old enough and enjoy the company of your friends without drugs or alcohol before the liquor starts calling the shots. It’ll be there down the road. All you need for a good time is good company.

As someone who drank and smoked a lot as soon as they could at 18 until my house party era ended around 24 years old, the booze is way more dangerous and risky. Both things damage the developing brain for sure and I know I’m a little dimmer after the fact than I would’ve been otherwise, but alcohol can get wild. Some people I knew crashed and burned hard before their lives even really got started. I also built a huge social web and came out of my socially awkward shell during that time which doubles as a safety net going forward in life so, I won’t say what you should or shouldn’t do. I’m just saying there are risks and if someone gets bit, not everyone recovers. Oh and all drugs “soft” or hard and even shit like caffeine incur a debt that you always have to pay back eventually. More drugs, bigger body debt.

Edible first timer, I would suggest not just because the potential for a bad expierence is high and then it’s bad for many hours. Especially if you get anxiety / paranoia in response to being high at all or too high. Vape extract like a 510 cart ideally for better control over dosage and not inhaling tarry stank ass smoke. If you can only smoke accept wasting some and only hit it once and then wait 15min to see how you feel before a second puff. Getting too high fucking sucks especially for a beginner, fair warning.

Ideally, you should wait. Like others have mentioned, your brain isn’t ready to deal with that stuff yet. You’re really not missing much. You really should wait.

You should wait a bit, it’s true about the studies. To be honest, I wouldn’t say a few times hurts much but it’s relatively easy to build a dependency though. Easy to go from every weekend, to every few days to always.

That being said, I second what people say about smoking and I also recommend using a good quality bong to make it easier on your throat. The smoothest hits I’ve ever taken have been with a home made gravity bong made out of a glass vodka bottle. Avoid plastic though, yuck. Don’t over do it if you use a bong. No need for like mega hits, you won’t need a lot anyways although some people don’t get high their first times.

And prepare what you’re gonna have ahead of time for if you get the munchies. The first time I ever smoked weed, I ate a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter (because it was the quickest food I could get my hands on) and spent the next hour thinking I was alternately gonna throw up or shit myself … while high.

You should 100% smoke first. You can control your high way better. With edibles, it’s a complete crapshoot on personal dosing. And since you never experienced THC before, it’s likely to be overwhelming and you’ll probably never want to do it again.

Alternatively, many people who try THC the first time don’t feel anything. Because it’s not THAT big of a change so you don’t realize what’s happening. Unless you green out of course.

Also be aware that you might not experience anything the first time you try it. And it can affect people in different ways. Some people feel high, some get agitated, some get sleepy, some feel nothing. And your tolerance for edibles is unrelated to your tolerance for smoke.

We know you’re excited, but for real, they take a while to kick in. Decide your dose and ride it out. If it ends up not working, double it tomorrow.

Find a nice couch and channel surf. Find a good nature documentary or some cartoons. Or, if video games are more you style, try something that doesn’t require much strategy, or on any save files that you care about.

If you DIY, my advice is to make a pan of normal brownies and a pan of weed brownies. It takes a while and you’re gonna be hungry but you don’t want to feel like you’re dead because you ate 4 weed brownies

If you take an edible it might take up to 2 hours before it kicks in. A common mistake people have as they take one, it doesn’t immediately take effect so they assume it was a dud and then they take more and then they end up taking more than they planned to. It’s not going to kill you or seriously hurt you, certain psychiatric predispositions excepted, but it will be unpleasant.

I’d hold off another few years. There’s just enough published info pointing towards risks being higher under the mid twenties. The brain never stops developing, but that first twenty years in particular is easier to disturb since the development is more significant.

At 18, you’re still putting the polish on some key centers, so fucking with that for a little hedonism seems unwise until there’s more and better research available.

Me? I think I’d hold off until at least 21-23. Honestly, I’d do the same with any mind altering stuff. It’s not long to wait, and going at it too early can have long term consequences. There’s plenty of time to experiment and enjoy all sorts of recreational pharmaceuticals.

Iirc, I had my first (of three lol) drunk at 17, and while it did no harm as a one-off (not much will tbh), I also didn’t really sink into the experience the same as later experiments with mind altering. Mind you, I’ve never liked being drunk, and avoided any of the high addiction potential stuff, but the difference in my second drunk compared to my first was massive just by dint of being 21, just a few years of added perspective on what I wanted out of it, and how I approached it.

Weed, that’s another one that my initial exposure in my late teens (18 or 19) was just not as good as years later (late twenties).

But, I can say that trying it once is worth it. If you end up not liking it, no big deal. I’d just wait a little longer. Weed, be it smoked, edible, or otherwise, is a very powerful experience when used infrequently. Steady use weakens the benefits of it for fun imo, but a few times a year? It’s nice. It enhances joy and good feelings.

Just be easy with edibles. They hit slow, but hard. You can always have more if you don’t get the degree of euphoria you want after a half hour, but you can’t take it away if you get too stoned, which is absolutely possible.

Edibles might be a bit much for the first time. They hit way harder than just smoking some buds, even if you’re a seasoned smoker.

Sublinguals (oils you drop under your tongue) might be a better route if you don’t want to smoke something. Gives a similar high, easier to take a smaller dose of, and the only real negative is that most of them just taste a little weird.

Last I saw pop science was saying it increases your risk of mental health problems by a shitload if youre under 21 or 25 or something, so try it at your own risk, but as a general rule I would advise weed over alcohol 100% of the time.

Prepare for potential paranoia/anxiety spikes while high, and surround yourself with comfort and people you trust. Its fun times.

I am not sure about the risk of “causing” per se versus “onset,” but if there’s any latent mental health stuff floating around in there, it will absolutely be like poking a bear. I’d suggest waiting a few years for sure.
