I’m making a strawberry cheesecake for the other half’s birthday which is tomorrow. Its totally okay for me to use the leftover strawberries as a spatula of sorts to scrape out the rest of the mixing bowl, isn’t it? To clarify, these leftover berries are straight into my belly.

Job offer has been rescinded after reference checks (which were glowing) because they didn’t feel one of my skillsets is strong enough - never mind that they didn’t even advertise for it and it was only lightly touched on in the interview process. Honestly feel relieved, albeit a little bit angry. Definitely got bullet dodged vibes.

I had that where a place asked for references then said they went with someone else with more industry experience. And I was just thinking “you knew that already, you have both our resumes.”

There is never any consideration on how much the interview process can be a waste of time for the candidate

Who does that? Consider everything before making the offer. Very sloppy, sounds like you dodged a bullet.

    Goodnight (at 8pm apparently) ❤️

Trying to allow for the usual shit sleep so I’m functional at 6:30am when I get up to get ready to meet old mate the director.

Apparently he’s British. I wonder if he loved The Bill and Are you being served as much as I did?

If a stranger is being / sounding rude to you, do you match their rudeness in return or try to kill them with kindness? I’ve had two such encounters over the past few days for some reason, used both approaches and felt unsatisfied each time.

Depends on the context. I think it comes down to whether they’re being rude to you for no reason or if there’s a slight provocation.

I always give cars the finger if they get in the way on my bike at all. I want to drive home that anything they do wrong could have serious impacts for me no matter who was in the wrong.

      Neither.

It depends on where they are coming from. If they are just a common arse I will ignore it and not see them again.

I will also assess the situation for possible violent outcomes.

I’m extremely hard to anger. I tend to empathise too much and if someone is being rude I’m pretty much just feeling sorry for them that they interact that way. I’d just try to de-escalate and politely stand my ground if they were trying to get something from me if it were unreasonable

I’m hard to anger, but can happy to shut rudely shut people down when needed… Generally I’m polite but will do a 180 immediately if someone acts up for no reason.

I rarely come across rude people but if I do I usually stare at them for a few seconds before I speak in an assertive tone.

I have said to people “Don’t speak to me like that. I didn’t speak to you rudely. You don’t speak to me like that”.

My dog will escort me from the couch to the loo then when I get back under the doona, I don’t know he’s there, he moves like I’m Godzilla then he cracks the shits because I’ve disturbed him.

I just bought a new doona. It’s thin but made of cotton and the inside is wool. I’m wondering if I’ll die of heat this summer.

My question of the day is: Do youse alternate between a winter doona and summer doona? What are they made of if you do or don’t?

I have a thin cotton doona stuffed with synthetics

In winter I use thick doona covers and sometimes a blanket on top, summer no doona cover and I just wash the doona every week or so.

I have a winter one and summer one. Summer one is probably synthetic.

The winter one is too much even in winter. i think it’s either wool or some poor bird’s feathers.

I have a light cotton doona I use over summer. Over winter I have two fairly heavy wool doonas, I used to use both at the same time over the coldest parts of winter and just one other times of the year, but the new house is warmer overnight so I’ve only needed the one.

Gonna go op-shopping for some house clothes (tired of spilling pasta sauce on good clothing). If I am lucky I might even get them cheaper than buying brand new from Kmart.

Be extra vigorous with the inspection and testing of zips in any clothing from the opshop. I shop there extensively and have found the number one reason a nice jacket is donated is because the zip is faulty or outright broken.

My mother refuses to even entertain the idea of fixing my zips and she says it an absolute pain and not worth the trouble. She is a seasoned sewer too so I’m going to continue to take her word for it.

I guess if the item is valuable enough and of high quality it may be worth taking to a professional and paying the premium.

I’m not sure if prices have changed but there are some fairly affordable repair services if you found something quite good.

Not even a tailor, just basic stuff like shortening pants and replacing zips. There used to be one in Melbourne Central.

YL wants me to do Onlyfans feet for petrol money and I’m seriously considering it. She’ll look after the account, photography etc and I’ll supply the feet. Strictly pics only. Basically she’s the boss and I’m the talent.

Give me a reason why not? I do have nice feet.

omg, I too have had the fleeting thought

but no, not ever ever ever

because people send you money they expect you to do things for them, you will get requests, plus they will send messages saying and doing nasty things

iow, it’s real sex work and you don’t want to do it

and it’s not just feet, they want the feet to belong to a person

I suppose you could make up a back story

I don’t know anyone who does it and it’s not my cup of tea so take this with a grain of salt.

But I heard stuff like the platform can randomly refuse to pay you for whatever reason. There were news articles where people were complaining of not getting their money.

Also consider that a lot of payment processors have cracked down on sex work (or anything they consider adjacent). So you might risk getting your payment account banned or not getting your money that way.

I’ve also seen articles interviewing the people getting hired to chat with subscribers on the creators behalf, so the subscribers may expect a parasocial online relationship for their money and you might be expected to chat with them or arrange someone else to do that. Not sure if YL would be comfortable.

The money may not be as good for the average person as the high earners say.

There’s also considerations around privacy and not getting doxed.

This is just what I’ve seen from news articles and my own observations. If you’re serious I’d talk to someone that’s actually done it and ask what you really need to know.

No worries. Sorry to be overly negative, it just seems like it could have some really sus aspects so go carefully.

Also a lot of artists that do commissions get chargeback scams so that could probably be done here too

You’d think the answer would be extremely obvious three months away from the laws taking effect.

      They have indicated the following:

[eSafety’s engagement, compliance and enforcement priorities] will focus on platforms where there is the highest risk, considering factors such as the level of use by Australians under 16 combined with the presence of features and functions associated with the harms that the restrictions aim to prevent.

I think Lemmy (and reddit) meet the definition of the type of social media they want to age restrict. At least in Lemmy’s case, it would be extremely unlikely to become a priority for enforcement if it ever is.
