It’s miserable weather, but at least I can now be confident my heater is up to the task.

I’ve now done the setup for the outdoor security cameras, I just need the weather to improve enough for me to go outside and mount them. It’s just a couple of screws to clamp on to the gutter so it shouldn’t take too long - the hardest bit will be deciding the best postion for the one in the back yard.

Unfortunately my leave is over and I have to go to work tomorrow. My first night shift in ages, hopefully the novelty of meeting a bunch of new people and learning how to do my job in a different place will stop me falling asleep.

Gosh I feel like I’ve been a total shut in this week with what happened to me, catching up on work and the cold weather. Winter hibernation mode is activating big time. I’ve got a birthday dinner tomorrow night and actually looking forward to some social time with friends, I really need it.

The wind seems to have died down a bit here. The feels like temp is now 0.3o which is the warmest I’ve seen it all day!

Our house backs onto a reserve and it’s pretty open and north facing.

      When it’s windy, it’s windy.

If not for roller shutters, our windows would have caved in several times now.

I’m so tired but I don’t want to waste my Friday night. I haven’t even had the weekly doughnut fries.

Might take a longer nap with Fluffball.

The new soft mattress topper calls to me lol.

I’ve got dessert on the way, went for a wake up walk and now I’m settled in for the night.

I want to play Claire obscura but I don’t want to start till I finish doom. I’m one of those “one game at a time” people.

Updates about melbcat are sweet, but I find it sweeter to read what you’re up to, even if it’s nothing at all. I care about you.

Fixing sleep is hard, and lack of vit d wouldn’t help (I mean just even the sun on your skin, not even necessarily vitamin d)

Sending you my love and good vibes 💜

There’s a lot of good in you Melba. I don’t think anyone else would’ve shown Melbcat the commitment and love that you’ve shown. Your care for her embodies the ideal of every being deserving a loving chance at life. Not many people can say that.

I’m having the opposite problem I think - I’m very much a side sleeper and my right shoulder has been a lot more sore since I started using a soft mattress topper about 20 months ago. I feel like it’s because there’s not enough support. Dunno…

I’m still safe and warm in the uni library greedily using up their heating. My bedroom heater will click on very soon (to help make it less miserable for poor sox who is also in the dark), but the rest of the house will be rather sad. I’ll be booted out of here in 45 minutes and home is just a 5 minute drive away so hopefully I can rescue the place from being too much of a freezing prison.

Maybe a nightlight and a heated kitty bed are in order 🥺

Edit: This one from Pawz is down to $40 from 80-ish, Temple and Webster has one on clearance at $35. This one is $46-50 at Harvey Norman, Big W, and Bunnings.

Melbcat’s was $40 at Kmart but they don’t seem to sell electric ones anymore

I’m so annoyed that I can’t find the heating pad I bought for her years ago - I think it was one of the few things I didn’t give to her owner when I moved house. I might get one of those cheap ones for her and give that to her owner when he gets back.

Most days I’m home well before it gets dark but next week I might have several long days. I think I’ll make a note to keep the bedroom lamp on at all times

I just watched How to Train Your Dragon and I thought it was excellent.

But then I read reviews. People have said it ruins the books and turns them into a generic coming-of-age plot, and also if you liken Hiccup to an autistic person, it describes how society shits on autistic people and glorifies them when they exhibit savant like moments.

She keeps asserting her lies until she gets completely cornered by the evidence and then changes the story and comes up with some excuse for the lies. Excuses like, oh I was embarrassed, oh I got confused, etc. I think she did it.

My wife has been fascinated by this case and listens to the daily podcast about it. She’s gone from “oh she definitely did it” to “maybe she’s innocent, I can’t be say beyond reasonable doubt” after this week’s testimony. So Erin is clearly doing some good for her case on the stand.

I haven’t been following the case closely, but I listened to one recap podcast a week ago where they describe the multiple phones, the missing phone seen on camera that wasn’t provided, with the one provided to police being factory reset first, and taking her dehydrator on CCTV to the tip after telling police she didn’t have one - it was all pretty damning.

She says 6 were made, one each for her guests, one for her and one that her child ate part of minus the toxic mushrooms which she scraped off.

3 people dead, one seriously ill, one made herself puke because she ate too much cake and one unscathed. Something doesn’t add up.

Well the punches keep rolling for the ol’ girl.

Just learned yesterday big C. in the bowel. Looks like IV.

The last 8 months have been hell for her ever since that fall and now completely unrelated… this. Pretty limited therapy when pushing 80yo. She’ll be going in for an op but chemo/radio is out of the question. Working out the spread basically means just working out (guessing) how long.

    Universe can be cruel.

Let’s say you’re at the supermarket; Is it against social norms to open a few punnets of strawberries and gather only the ripe ones to put in the punnet you eventually purchase?

Edit: also no, I have not done this personally

Given they are sold as a pre-packaged item I think it would not just be against social norms, but could also be illegal. Especially if you have to break a seal to do it. It’s like openeing a few bags of jelly snakes to consolidate the red ones because you don’t like the mix.

It’s not the same as the bag of grapes which are still weighed at checkout and just divided into bags for convenience.

I think it’s fine if you sort the non-ripe ones into their own punnets of similar ripeness at the same time, and arrange those punnets in order of ripeness such that is clear to other shoppers that what they are seeing is indeed punnets of strawberries arranged in ascending (or descending, I guess) order of ripeness.
Edit: you would also need to be leaving at least five punnets as described above

I do it grapes but I guess that’s different because they’re open bags. Not sure I would pick and mix strawberries, but ya know what, if I saw someone do it I wouldn’t pay them any attention.
